Digyo Island in Inopacan, Leyte

Meet Inopacan, the quiet setting of some of the most beautiful white beaches in the region. Photo by @javycang

Leyte has flown under the tourist radar for a long time, but the rise of Kalanggaman Island spurred the search for similarly stunning isles in the province. The municipality of Inopacan has a couple, including the tiny G-shaped Digyo Island that traveller @javycang shared on his Instagram feed. The picturesque white sand beach - particularly, the distinctly-shaped sandbar - is a sight to behold with clear blue waters surrounding it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Overnight tourists are welcomed with cottages available for rent and camping allowed. Other tourist-friendly islands in Inopacan include Mahaba and Apid, while the nearby municipality of Hindang has the big and beautiful Himokilan Island. These four islands are collectively known as the Cuatro Islas.

How to get there
Fly from Manila to Tacloban City via Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines or Air Asia. From the airport or the Tacloban town center, ride a tricycle to the terminal for vans going to Inopacan. Travel time is over two hours. Alight at the town hall where it's only a short walk to the baywalk for boats to the islands. From here, it's roughly 30 minutes at sea going to Digyo Island.
