German Island in Port Barton, Palawan

In this tiny island in San Vicente, tourists can get close and swim with sea turtles. Photo by @droneland_bonamy

At the heart of Port Barton Bay, San Vicente in northwestern Palawan, off the coast of a seemingly endless stretch of different beaches, is an idyllic little island kissed by sparkling blue waters and framed with powdery white sand. The privately-owned German Island is a popular lunch stop for tourists during island hopping trips in Port Barton. Hammocks are available for those who want a short post-meal nap, but swimming is especially encouraged here because of the possibility of sea turtles floating up and joining you. Overnight camping is allowed.

How to get there
Fly from Manila to Puerto Princesa via Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific. From the Puerto Princesa airport, ride the Lexxus Shuttle van going straight to Port Barton. Book a seat in advance and check the schedules at Biyaheroes. Tell the driver to drop you off at the Port Barton pier where there are outrigger boats that can take you to German Island and surrounding islands.
