Modessa Island, Roxas, Palawan

Gorgeous white-sand beach, turquoise waters, hammocks under palm trees, and simple thatched huts that cost next to nothing. Who says holidays have to cost a fortune? Photo by @andreadalisay

Palawan's endless stream of picture-perfect beaches doesn't end with Coron and El Nido. Surrounded by crystalline blue waters, vibrant marine life and a pristine stretch of white sand, the privately-owned Modessa Island in Roxas is a stunning escape, located some 80 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Puerto Princesa. Small native huts dot the island and hammocks under palm trees present an Instagram-perfect picture. Just a few meters from the shore are good snorkeling spots with a thriving coral reef, colorful fishes and giant clams. Other activities and facilities include a pool table, massages right on the beach, volleyball, board games and more.

How to get there
Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific fly from Manila to Puerto Princesa. From Puerto Princesa airport, take a tricycle or taxi  to the San Jose terminal where there are buses and vans departing for Roxas, Palawan. Get off at the Roxas wharf and take a 45-minute boat ride going straight to Modessa Island.

Book a stay at Modessa Island Resort. Rates from P2,200 per person per day, including three meals and boat transfers to and from Roxas wharf.
