Sunlight dances on the dazzling waters of the Sumilon Island sandbar, just off the coast of Tan-awan, Oslob, Cebu. The privately owned island is around 130 kilometers south of Cebu City, but many travellers make the trip to play on the pristine shores of the sandbar. Unlike other sandbars, Sumilon doesn’t completely disappear underwater during high tide so tourists can stop by any time of the day for a picnic or a swim. Trek up the rocks for a panoramic view of the small island. Other activities in the island include snorkeling, diving and visiting the lighthouse.
How to get there
Fly Manila to Cebu via Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific. From the airport, take a taxi to the South Bus Terminal. Hop on a bus going to Oslob, and get off at the Tan-awan port where there are outrigger boats that can take you directly to Sumilon Island.
Book a room at Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort. Rooms start at P12,295++ ($250), +6332 318 3129.
