Filipino veteran balladeers Rey Valera, Rico J. Puno, Haji Alejandro, Marco Sison and Jessa Zaragosa are back on stage at The Best of OPM Hitmakers concert at Resorts World Manila on December 9. Valera is a singer and songwriter, having written songs for popular singer and actress Sharon Cuneta; Puno is known for such hit songs as Kapalaran (Fate) and May Bukas Pa (There’s Still Tomorrow); Alejandro, a pop icon in the 1970s popularized songs such as Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika (How Beautiful Our Music Is) and Nakapagtataka (It’s a curious thing); Sison, also a singer-actor in the 70s has hit singles Si Aida, Si Lorna, O Si Fe (Aida, Lorna or Fe) and Make Believe; while Jessa Zaragosa is known for such songs as S’ya Ba Ang Dahilan? (Is She the Reason?) and Ibigay Mo Na (Give It Already).

December 15


Here’s yet another spin-off from the Star Wars saga: Rogue One: Star Wars Story in cinemas on December 16. The story tells of unlikely heroes coming together to steal the plans to the Death Star, “the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.” By Lucasfilms; directed by Gareth Edwards; screenplay by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy; story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta; characters by George Lucas. Stars include Felicity Jones playing Jyn Erso; Mads Mikkelsen playing Galen Erso; and Riz Ahmed playing Bodhi Rook.

December 16 to 18


Here’s a treat you won’t want your kids to miss: Hi-5 Fairy Tale, a brand new show of the award-winning Australian pre-school children’s TV and musical group Hi-5. The fairytale-themed song and dance and storytelling show features Hi-5 cast Mary, Dayen, Lachie, Chris and Tanika, together with puppets Chats and Jup Jup. Themes include The Adventures of the Brave Prince of Knights, Sir Bucket Head and Princess Sleepy Head. The show will run at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre at Resorts World Manila on December 16 to 18.

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) opens on December 25, with major cinemas showing juror-approved Philippine film entries.

December 25 to January 4


The annual Wonderful World of Disney on Ice is back in Manila this year, bringing you and your kids your favorite Disney characters, performing on ice at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Featured this year are performances from Disney classics Rapunzel and The Lion King as well as Finding Dory and Frozen. The show runs from December 25 until January 4.
