Hotel review: The Boutique Bed and Breakfast

Stylish rooms with the best views of Taal volcano make this hotel an unforgettable stay

The view from the I Dream room

First Impression. Soon as you set foot at The Boutique Bed & Breakfast, a seven-room boutique hotel in Tagaytay, you know you’re in for an indulgent stay. Painted all white, surrounded by lush plants and trees, the hotel offers a stunning view of the Taal Lake and Volcano.

Location. Along Aguinaldo Highway, Tagaytay City on the westbound road towards Nasugbu. It’s a little over an hour’s drive from Manila.

The I Dream Room

Rooms. I was booked in the "I Dream" room with a private terrace offering the best view of Taal Volcano. It was nicely furnished with a king sized bed with luxe beddings. No scrimping on modcons here with LCD TV with a DVD player, iPod-ready speakers and dock, a library of board games and DVDs, and free WI-FI. All of the seven rooms in the hotel are named after emotions - escape, dare, desire, dream, lust, surrender, love.

After check in, I was asked to choose my set of toiletries and room scent and was served Hawaiian iced tea and a plate of espasol (local rice cake) with melted chocolate. The day's activity was a choice of complimentary 10-minute facial cold stone massage or foot massage.

Food. The baby back ribs at the hotel’s Original Hawaiian Bar-B-Q Grill, served with baked potato and cheese, was very good. For dessert, try the mango crumble. The restaurant's specialty include fruit-infused barbecued meat and seafood dishes.

We like. The rooms with a view and the pampering. You get a hot cup of chocolate served with freshly made churros for a nightcap and a generous breakfast in bed.

Verdict. Recommended.

Rates start at P5,592 (about US$ 130) per room night, inclusive of breakfast in bed and complimentary 10-minute facial cold stone massage or foot massage for two.
